Lions to get a test against a top-flight opponent
NEW YORK – The Columbia squash teams are back in action this weekend at the SL Greenstreet Squash Center in Harlem when the Lions host Drexel at 1 p.m.
MATCH COVERAGE
All matches this weekend will be streamed live through the Columbia Stretch portal. Video from the men's matches can be viewed HERE, and video from the women's matches can be viewed HERE. Live scores for all matches will be available through Club Locker.
COLUMBIA IN THE RANKINGS
The men's team is currently ranked No. 8 in the College Squash Association rankings, while the women's team is ranked No. 11.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The men and women both came out on the losing end in their respective matchups against Virginia. The men fell to the Cavaliers 6-3, with the women falling to Virginia 8-1 at SL Greenstreet Squash Center.
On the men's side, first-year Ahmad Haq secured a four-game win at No. 3, marking his third consecutive win to begin his collegiate career. Sophomore Imad Athar delivered a gritty five-game victory at No. 6 and junior Paarth Ambani swept his opponent at No. 7.
For the women, junior Kaavya Bansal sealed the lone victory for the Lions with a five-set thriller.
PREVIEWING THE OPPONENTS
Drexel's men's team enters Sunday's contest with an overall record of 4-1. Last time out, Drexel lost 8-1 to top-ranked Penn at the Penn Squash Center.
On the women's side, Drexel is 3-3 overall. After coming off a pair of losses to No. 4 Stanford and No. 2 Princeton, the Dragons got back into the win column with a 9-0 victory over No. 14 Georgetown on Nov. 23.
