SAVANNAH, Ga. — Bolstered by an 11-under-par opening round, the Columbia men's golf team is positioned fourth and in contention at The Savannah Intercollegiate. The first two rounds of the 54-hole event were played on Saturday at The Club at Savannah Harbor.
Columbia (-7) was led by the play of
Grant Lester. The first-year, who competed in the Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase earlier this week, carded rounds of 4-under 68 and 1-under 71. He combined for eight birdies and just three bogeys between the two rounds. Lester (-5) is tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard, just three shots behind tournament leader Erik Rengardt of USC Beaufort.
Senior
Wyatt McGovern (-3) is not far behind in a tie for 17th. McGovern started the tournament hot with a bogey-free 5-under 67, including an eagle at the par-5 fourth. He coupled that with a second-round 74. Also in the top 30 is
Darren Pang, who shot rounds of 70 and 74 to sit at even-par for the weekend.
The Lions will tee off with the rest of the tournament leaders on Sunday, alongside Longwood (-18), USC Beaufort (-15) and Penn (-14). The shotgun start is scheduled for 8 a.m. ET. Fans can
