Tom Yu (-10) earns his first individual collegiate victory
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The Columbia men's golf team captured its fifth consecutive Columbia Autumn Invitational title, shooting a tournament total of 6-under-par 846 to hold off second-place Colgate at Lake Placid Club's Links Course.
Leading the way for the Lions was first-year Tom Yu, who earned his first collegiate individual victory with a 10-under-par 203. Yu opened with back-to-back sub-70 rounds of 66 and 67 before sealing the win with a 1-under 70 on Sunday. His performance earned him a five-stroke victory over Cornell's Shep Davis and Dartmouth's Benjamin Wang, marking the first individual title by a Lion since DJ Francey won two tournaments during the 2023-24 season.
Sophomore Neil Kulkarni notched a top-10 finish for the Lions, tying for ninth at even-par 213. Kulkarni sparked Columbia's second round, posting a 66 of his own to lead the team to a tournament-low round of 12-under-par 272. Backed by the strong second round, Columbia never relinquished the lead, finishing five strokes clear of runner-up Colgate (-1) and 10 shots ahead of third-place Cornell (+4) in the 13-team field.
First-year Spencer Carter and sophomore Alejandro Formosa both tied for 20th place at 4-over 217. Carter carded rounds of 72, 71, and 74, while Formosa bounced back from an opening 75 with a 3-under 68 in the second round before concluding with a 74.
Sophomore Ryan Keyes (73-72-75) rounded out the team lineup tied for 30th at 7-over 220, putting all five of Columbia's starters inside the top 30. First-year Charles Lange led the group of Lions competing separately as individuals, tying for 26th at 6-over 219 (72-72-75).
Columbia concludes the fall season when it hosts the Metropolis Intercollegiate, October 12-13, at Metropolis Country Club in White Plains, New York.
