
Fencing Continues Hot Streak With Six Wins at Brian Palestis Memorial

The Lions went 6-0 In Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Columbia fencing yet again had a perfect day at the Brian Palestis Memorial invitational, going 6-0 on Sunday. The Lion men and women were both 3-0 in their contests. The women improved to 25-1 in dual matches, and the men moved to 22-2.
Jackson Mcbride and Will Morrill both finished 7-2 in sabre, while Ethan Xiao was 6-0 in foil. For the women, Tamar Gordon (sabre), Chloe Gouhin (sabre), Chloe Szeto (sabre), Alanna Xue (foil), and Carolina Stutchbury (foil) all had an impressive perfect day at 6-0.
In round one, the women started off strong with a decisive 25-2 victory over Vassar, with sabre and foil both going 9-0. The men also emerged on top over Vasser with a 20-7 victory assisted by a 9-0 performance in foil.
The Lion's men had a slightly harder time in the second round against St. John's, but the 8-1 record in foil featuring 3-0 finishes by Ethan and Enoch Xiao helped achieve an 18-9 victory. The women had a similar outcome over St. John's with a 20-7 win and 9-0 in sabre.
In the third round against Wagner, The men and women both finished the day with a win with the women finishing 20-7 and men going 21-6.
Next up, Columbia will look to repeat as Ivy League Championships at the Ivy League Round Robins, being held from February 8-9, at the Palestra in Philadelphia.
