The Lions will head to Philadelphia in search of back-to-back crowns
NEW YORK — Columbia fencing will look to defend its men's and women's titles at the Ivy League Championships this weekend, February 8-9, in Philadelphia at The Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
The event will be broadcast live on ESPN+, featuring wraparound coverage of the nine strips.
The Lions enter the two-day event as the No. 2 seed in the men's and women's draws. The women boast a 25-1 record in dual matches this season, and the men are 22-2. Princeton claimed the top seed on the men's and women's side.
Each of the teams will fence in dual matches against each of the other squads. The team or teams with the best record will emerge as Ivy League Champions. The action begins on Saturday, February 8, when the men face off against the host Penn Quakers at 10 a.m. The women's competition is slated to start at 2:30 p.m. against Yale. The full schedule can be found on the Ivy League Championship Tournament Central page.
Last season, both squads finished in a three-way tie for the Ivy League Championship. The women shared the trophy with Penn and Princeton at 5-1, while the men finished 4-1, which matched Harvard and Princeton. The double victories marked the fifth time the Lions have won both men's and women's events since 2015 and the 12th time overall.
Sophomore Sam Kumbla is the defending individual champion in men's foil after a 10-2 record in his Ivy League Championship debut in 2024. In total, the Lions saw seven earn All-Ivy League honors (Rachael Kim – women's foil, Skyler Liverant – men's epee, Tamar Gordon – women's sabre, Bogdan Hamilton – men's foil and Jaden Callahan – men's sabre), all of whom will be in the lineup for Columbia this weekend.
