ORLANDO, Fla. – The Columbia softball team outlasted Pitt in the second game of Friday's doubleheader to earn a win on opening day of the 2025 season. Columbia fell to Quinnipiac in the first game of the day to split Friday's doubleheader.
QUINNIPIAC RECAP
Quinnipiac posted a 14-1 win over Columbia to kick off action Friday. Quinnipiac capitalized on nine hits to defeat the Lions in five innings.
Kyra Mason,
Eleni Katsivalis and
Caroline Palys registered hits in the game.
Maddie Souza was credited with an RBI as she helped score Columbia's lone run of the contest.
Lily McCord (0-1) was charged with the loss in 2.0 innings of work.
PITT RECAP
Columbia got the bats going in the second game of the day and was able to bounce back for a 9-7 win over Pitt. The Lions put up a five spot in the top of the first inning, which proved critical down the stretch as Columbia was able to outlast Pitt.
Cami Neal and
Sarah Mikami each tallied two hits in the game. Neal launched a home run in the second inning to mark her 100
th career hit as a Lion. Columbia hit a total of three homers in the contest, including shots by
Savanna Messner and Mikami. In total, eight Lions registered at least one hit in the win.
Mikami got the start and worked 1.2 innings to start the game.
Charlotte Laidler stepped in and fired the final 5.1 innings to earn the win.
UP NEXT
Columbia will play another doubleheader Saturday at the UCF SpaceU Classic. The Lions will face Florida Gulf Coast at 2 p.m. Saturday before finishing the day with a 4:30 p.m. game against UCF.
