ORLANDO, Fla. – The Columbia softball team was defeated by Florida Gulf Coast and UCF in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon on the second day of the UCF SpaceU Classic.
The Lions move to 1-3 overall to start the season after Saturday's performance. Columbia will face Quinnipiac for the second time this weekend on Sunday in the final game from Orlando.
FGCU RECAP
FGCU scored at least one run in every inning to post an 11-3 victory over Columbia in five innings. FGCU capitalized on 10 hits in the contest. The Eagles plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to finish the run-rule victory.
Savanna Messner tallied two RBI and
Sarah Mikami was credited with one to put Columbia on the scoreboard.
Kyra Mason, Messner,
Cami Neal,
Eleni Katsivalis, Mikami,
Juju O'Brien and
Maddie Souza recorded a hit in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Lily McCord (0-2) suffered the loss as she earned the start and worked 1.0 inning.
Caylene Nguyen and
Charlotte Laidler also saw action.
UCF RECAP
UCF capitalized on 10 hits to score eight runs in an 8-0 win over Columbia in five innings to cap off the day for the Lions. Columbia was limited to just one hit in the game, which came from Neal.
Emmy Davis (0-1) earned the start for Columbia and worked 3.2 innings in the loss.
Jordan Hill also came into the game briefly and recorded one out.
