ORLANDO, Fla. – A seven-run sixth inning powered Columbia past Quinnipiac, 10-2 on Sunday in the final game of the UCF SpaceU Classic.
The Lions leave Orlando with two victories this weekend after outlasting Pitt on Friday and defeating Quinnipiac in a run-rule victory Sunday.
Columbia struck for 10 runs on 11 hits in Sunday's win, highlighted by seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to finish the game early.
Kyra Mason and
Sarah Mikami led the Lions with three hits each. Mikami and
Maddie Souza each tallied three RBI.
Quinnipiac took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Columbia immediately responded with a three-spot in the top of the second inning to claim the lead for good.

Caroline Palys reached on a throwing error that allowed Mikami to score from third. Three straight two-out singles from Souza,
Payton Shimansky and Mason ignited a rally that plated three Columbia runs.
Columbia and Quinnipiac settled in on the mound and exchanged scoreless frames until the sixth inning when the Columbia bats came alive.
Juju O'Brien reached on a fielding error to start the sixth inning. O'Brien then stole second before Palys singled to right field to put two Lions on with one out. A Souza double to left field scored O'Brien and Palys for the first two runs of the frame.
Mason followed shortly after with a two-out base hit to center that scored Souza.
Savanna Messner then hit another single to keep the Columbia momentum going.
Cami Neal drew a walk to load the bases with two outs before
Eleni Katsivalis drew another walk to force Mason home. Mikami came up for the second time in the inning and hit a double to left center that cleared the bases and allowed Columbia to finish off the 10-2 run-rule victory.

Columbia has next weekend off before returning to action at the FGCU Spring Break Classic in Fort Myers, Florida starting March 7. The Lions will play Toledo, FGCU and Lehigh in Fort Myers.
