LAST TIME OUT
The Lions closed out their 2025 indoor regular season two weeks ago competing in three different meets across the northeast. This included the Cornell Kane Invitational, the Yale Giegengack Invitational and the BU Valentine Invitational.
Obiora Okeke was the star of the show in Ithaca, winning the weight throw and shot put once again and setting another program record in the process. His mark of 20.60 in the weight throw is now tops in the history of Columbia.
In New Haven, Lucy Henkel starred with a win in the 500m clocking in at 1:15.88. Naomi Toft won the 800m with a time of 2:14.73.
In Boston, Matt Gatune was the story as he cracked the sub-four minute mile club with a time of 3:59.35 which is third-fastest in Columbia history.
Haydn Brotschi also had a great showing, placing second in the 400m dash with a time of 47.64 which is a new personal best and the third quickest time in Columbia history.

RETURNING TOP PERFORMERS
The biggest storyline entering the weekend will be Talha Syed, who will look to avenge his DQ in the 5,000m at the 2024 Indoor Heps. His time of 14:01.63 would have been good for a championship, and he will look to repeat that performance
At the 2024 Indoor Heps, the Lions combined to win five silver medals. Rory Clare took second in the 1,000m (2:46.19), Elia Ton-That won two silver medals in the 5,000m (15:58.51) and 3,000m (9:22.03), and Obiora Okeke placed second in the shot put (18.46m). Syed also secured second place for the men in the 3,000m with a time of 8:03.50. All will return in 2025 looking to turn that silver into gold.
Okeke would go on to win his first Ivy League Championship at the 2024 Outdoor Heps in the shot put, and has only improved since so he hopes to defend that title and win the Indoor Shot Put title.
Other names to watch include Matt Gatune, Haydn Brotschi, Jacob Van Orden, Lucy Henkel, Madison Williams, Josie Rempe, and both 4x800 relay teams.
UP NEXT
After the conclusion of Indoor Heps, any Lions who qualify will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships which are set for March 15 in Virginia.
