PRINCETON, N.J. – For a second consecutive week, Columbia women's basketball sophomore
Riley Weiss has been named Ivy League Player of the Week. The league office announced its weekly honors Monday afternoon.
Weiss was phenomenal in leading Columbia (16-4, 7-0 Ivy) to road wins at Harvard and Dartmouth. Friday night, in a nationally televised game on ESPNU, she scored a career-high 26 points in an 80-71 victory over Harvard. Weiss was 9-of-17 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from long range, tacking on six rebounds. She scored 10 in the first quarter to help the Lions race ahead.
Less than 24 hours later, she scored 25 points in just 25 minutes of action to lead her team to a convincing 71-48 win at Dartmouth. Again, she was impressive from the field, hitting 8-of-16 and 4-of-7 from downtown, also collecting six more rebounds. Weiss opened the second half with nine of Columbia's first 12 points to put the game out of reach.
A native of nearby Hewlett, New York, Weiss averaged 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steal across the two games. She shot 51.5 percent from the floor and 56.3 percent (9-16) from 3-point range.
Weiss is one of the most elite 3-point shooters in the country, ranking No. 3 in the NCAA at 3.25 made threes per game. Her 65 total threes rank ninth and her 167 attempts are top 10. Meanwhile, she is hitting 38.9 percent of her threes, which is tops in the Ivy League and top 75 nationally.
The two victories kept Columbia alone atop the
Ivy League standings. The Lions have won nine straight overall and extended their Ivy League winning streak to 17 straight dating back to last season.
Kitty Henderson was named to this week's Ivy League Honor Roll. The senior from Australia averaged 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals over the two wins. She went for 22 points and 10 rebounds at Harvard.
Columbia visits Brown (10-10, 4-3 Ivy) on Saturday. Opening tip from the Pizzitola Sports Center, the site of
2025 Ivy Madness, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
