PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia softball first-year
Juju O'Brien has been named the Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday.
The native of Manhattan Beach, Calif., was on fire last weekend, hitting .700 for the week (7-for-10). After starting the tournament 0-for-2, she wrapped up the Golden Coast Softball Classic going 7-for-8. O'Brien was the table setter for the Lions, going 3-for-5 as a leadoff hitter, and was a perfect 3-for-3 with two outs.
Defensively, O'Brien boasted a 1.000 fielding percentage, notching 11 assists and two putouts. This is the first career weekly award for O'Brien.
"I'm incredibly proud of Juju and the performance she put together this past weekend," head coach
Jennifer Teague said. "She's been putting in a lot of work, and it was great to see her attack quality pitches with confidence. I'm excited for her and the impact she'll continue to have as we head into conference play."
Columbia wraps up its California Spring Break trip tomorrow with a game at Sacramento State. The Lions and Hornets are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. On Friday, Columbia makes its home debut when Penn comes to the Columbia Softball Stadium for a three-game Ivy League series.
