Baseball’s Road Trip Concludes as the Lions Fall to CSUN on Tuesday

Fishel extends hitting streak; Lazits homers for fourth straight game

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Columbia baseball was defeated by CSUN on Tuesday at Robert J. Hiegert Field, 12-2, in seven innings.

The Lions (4-11) recorded just four hits on the afternoon. CSUN (3-14) took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning after the leadoff man Roberto Gonzalez tripled and then scored on a wild pitch before an out was recorded.

The Matadors expanded their lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning after an RBI double and a throwing error.

Anton Lazits got the Lions on the board in the sixth inning with his seventh home run of the season. He is on a six-game hitting streak and has 19 runs batted in.

Ben Fishel extended his hitting streak to six games and drove in Columbia's second run of the day with an RBI single up the middle in the seventh.

Brendan Murphy got the start for Columbia and went four innings, giving up four runs. Ray Huke, Martin Zhang, and AJ Valle also saw action on the mound.

Columbia returns to New York City for its home opener and Ivy League opener on Saturday vs. Brown. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium is set for 11:30 a.m.
