Baseball Routs Brown, 13-3, on Sunday for Series Sweep

The Lions cracked 13 hits; Santana goes six strong again for his second straight win

NEW YORK — Columbia baseball exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to pull away from Brown for a 13-3 victory and series sweep on Sunday afternoon from Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.

The Lions (7-11, 3-0) jumped out early with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Cole Fellows' two-run homer. Jackson Brewer then ripped a two-run double.

Fellows went 3-for-5 with a double, home run, and three RBIs. Jack Kail contributed three doubles and drove in two runs. Sam Miller scored three times.

For Brown (2-14, 0-3), Chris Butera belted home runs in the second and sixth innings, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with Columbia's offensive onslaught.

The sixth inning offensive explosion for the Lions included a Miller RBI single, Fellows RBI double, Lazits two-run double,
Griffin Palfrey RBI double, and was capped by an Owen Estabrook run-scoring single.

Starter Thomas Santana pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts. Palfrey earned the save with three scoreless innings in relief, striking out three. Luke Trout took the loss for Brown, giving up seven runs on five hits in 4.2 innings.

The Lions capitalized on their opportunities, tallying 13 hits and six doubles. Brown managed six hits but left eight runners on base.

Columbia goes for its fourth-straight win when it hosts Manhattan on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
