Two Lions in the top 25 after 18 holes
AIKEN, S.C. — First-year Emily Luo carded a collegiate-low round of 1-over-par 74 on the first day of the More Than Golf Invitational. The ANNIKA Foundation is co-hosting the tournament alongside Columbia University and Augusta University.
Luo recorded two birdies and three bogeys on her round. Teeing off at the 10th, she bogeyed the par-5 12th but bounced back with a birdie at the par-5 15th to make the turn at even. The first-year from Danville, California got into red figures with a birdie at the par-4 first. She went on to make six pars and two bogeys to close out the round. Luo's 74 matches her low this season but is her lowest single round in relation to par.
Luo is tied for 11th on the 70-player leaderboard. Fellow first-year Sarah Shao carded 13 pars and five bogeys for a 5-over 78. She is tied for 25th.
Columbia (+22) is tied for eighth on the 12-team leaderboard with 36 holes remaining. The Lions are just 10 shots off fourth-place Illinois State and one more shot behind third-place Delaware. Georgia Southern (+2) leads the pack.
Saturday's second round begins at 9:30 a.m. Fans can follow the action courtesy of the live scoreboard on Clippd.
ABOUT THE MORE THAN GOLF INVITATIONAL
The More Than Golf Invitational is designed to provide an exceptional, high-quality golf experience and the opportunity for participants to advance their careers. The individual medalist will receive up to three complimentary starts on the ANNIKA Women's All-Pro Tour throughout the summer.
In alignment with the ANNIKA Foundation's mission, the More Than Golf Invitational will provide valuable life and career guidance for the student-athletes. "The More Than Golf Invitational speaks to the heart of our mission — to develop, empower and advance young women through golf and in life — and we are very excited to kick things off next year at Old Barnwell," said Annika. "We're grateful to our partners at Old Barnwell and our host universities, Augusta and Columbia, for helping us make this dream a reality. This tournament will give the student-athletes a chance to test themselves at a premier golf venue, while providing memorable experiences, life, and career advice."
