Palfrey’s Eight RBIs Leads Baseball Past Fairfield, 18-7

The senior went 4-for-5 with two home runs and three runs scored

NEW YORK — Columbia baseball walloped Fairfield, 18-7, on Tuesday from Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.

The Lions (15-16, 8-4) recorded 18 runs on 18 hits. Shortly after being named to the 2025 watch list for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award on Tuesday, Griffin Palfrey went off for a four-hit performance, which included two home runs and eight RBI. He also took over on the mound for the ninth inning and struck out three batters to close out the game.

Three straight singles from Fairfield (26-9, 13-2) to start the game put the Stags up 2-0. A Palfrey single followed by four straight RBI doubles from Anton Lazits, Cole Fellows, Jack Kail, and Skye Selinsky propelled the Lions to a 4-2 lead in the home first inning.

Fairfield tied it at 4-4 in the second inning. Palfrey fired back with a three-run homer to put the Lions back in the driver's seat before Columbia added two more runs.

The Lions broke it open during a seven-run sixth inning in which Palfrey hit his second three-run homer right after Sam Miller hit a two-run single.

Evan Kleinhans and Justin Bowman each recorded scoreless outings out of the Columbia bullpen. The Lions pitching staff recorded 10 strikeouts and only walked three.

Columbia welcomes Dartmouth for a doubleheader on Saturday for Alumni Day and then the series finale on Sunday for Senior Day.
