Baseball Collects Two Wins Over Dartmouth on Saturday

The Lions celebrated Alumni Day in style, totaling 24 runs

NEW YORK — Columbia baseball swept Saturday's doubleheader over Dartmouth from Robertson Field at Satow Stadium with an 8-6 win in game one and a 16-10 victory in game two.

Between games of the doubleheader, Columbia recognized the 2015 Ivy League Championship team that won three games in the NCAA Tournament Regional.

Columbia (17-16, 10-4) and Dartmouth (7-20, 5-9) play the series finale on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 11:40 a.m.

Game 1 Recap

Columbia jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. The three-run first inning featured a Jack Kail two-run single. After Dartmouth plated two runs in the third, Kail answered in the home half with a two-run home run.

Sam Miller went deep with a solo home run in the fourth inning and a few batters later, Cole Fellows drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to give Columbia an 8-2 lead.

Dartmouth came back and got within two after Elliot Krewson hit a solo home run in the ninth, but Alex Sotiropoulos nailed down the final outs.

Lions starting pitcher Joe Sheets went seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Sheets struck out six and walked three. Miller, Kail, and Griffin Palfrey all had multiple hits in the game.

Game 2 Recap

Dartmouth held a brief 1-0 lead in the first inning before Hunter Snyder blasted a solo home run and Lazits doubled in a run.

The Big Green then took a 6-3 advantage in the fourth inning. The Lions again quickly responded with a solo home run from Miller and a Fellows RBI triple to tie the game at 6-6.

The Lions broke open a 12-7 lead in the seventh off a double steal. Dartmouth was able to inch closer at 12-10 in the top of the eighth, but Miller's second home run of the game and third of the day boosted the lead to a five-run margin.

Evan Kleinhans picked up the win and Will Harrigan earned his third save of the season out of the bullpen.
