Chang (-2), Shao (-1) among top 3 on individual leaderboard
NAPLES, Fla. — Led by the play of first-years Christine Chang and Sarah Shao, Columbia is tied for second after Round 1 of the 2025 Ivy League Women's Golf Championship. The tournament's opening round was contested on Friday at Royal Palm Golf Club.
Columbia (+4) is tied with Penn for second and just three shots back of Princeton (+1). Chang shot a 2-under-par 70 and is alone in second place on the individual leaderboard. Shao carded a 71 and is tied for third. Both Chang and Shao tied their low rounds for the season. They are just a few shots back of Harvard's Vanessa Zhang, who leads the 36-player field at 4 under.
Chang's scorecard was clean the entire day. She opened with back-to-back birdies at Royal Palm's par-4 first and par-4 second. The rookie from Auburn, Alabama would go on to card 16 straight pars to close her round. Meanwhile, Shao posted two birdies and two bogeys on her front nine to make the turn at even. She posted birdies at the par-4 12th and par-4 14th on the back, sandwiched around a bogey at the par-3, 179-yard 13th. Four straight pars brought her in under par. Chang and Shao are two of just four players who posted sub-par rounds on Friday.
Junior Yoko Tai posted a 75 and first-year Emily Luo posted a 76 to round out Columbia's top four counting scores. Both are inside the top 20 individually.
The Lions tee off in Saturday's second round starting at 10 a.m. Fans can find pairings and follow live scoring throughout the weekend on the College Golf Scoreboard, powered by Clippd.
