NEW YORK — The Columbia track & field team competed in the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, and the Mark Young Invitational in New Haven this weekend.
The Lions had a fantastic showing at the Mark Young Invitational, finishing the meet with a plethora of first place and other top finishes for both the men's and women's teams.
Obiora Okeke led the men's team as he continued his winning streak with three more first place finishes. Okeke won shot put with a mark of 18.76m, which was a new program record.
Toby Tan followed him in second place with a mark of 15.22m. In hammer throw, Okeke placed first with a mark of 62.10.
Parker Kim placed second with a mark of 59.98 and
Simon Skoumal came in 3rd with a mark of 57.95. Finally, in discus throw, Okeke took first with a mark of 52.85.
Jaden Ebanks also had a first place finish in long jump. He won the event with a mark of 7.06, with
Benson Fleischer coming in 3rd with a mark of 6.54.
The other men's top finishers were
Collin Moore,
Nicholas Hayden, and
Jonah Aden. Moore placed second in high jump with a mark of 1.96. Hayden competed in the 800m, finishing second with a time of 1:53.07. Aden placed third in the 5000m with a time of 15:30.38.
As for the women's team, the majority of their top finishers were in the field events.
Norina Khanzada was the winner of the women's high jump with a mark of 1.61. In pole vault,
Seraiah Bruno placed first with a new program record mark of 3.85, with
Jessica Thompson coming in 3rd with a mark of 3.65. Another first place finish came from Zuriel Jiminez in javelin throw. She won with a mark of 34.93.
Jada Mia Puryear finished third in discus throw with a mark of 40.33.
In the track events, the women were still very competitive. In the 100m,
Sean O'Brien placed second with a time of 12.12 and
Olivia Sterling was third with a time of 12.14.
Annie Killian placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:14.05. Finally, in the 5000m,
Brigid McCabe finished second with a time of 18:08.62 and
Maggie Bennett placed third with a time of 18:37.65.

Meanwhile at the Wake Forest Invitational, several other Lions were competing.
Brett Bishop raced the 3000m steeplechase, finishing sixth with a time of 8:57.28.
Gavin White also competed in this event, finishing 12th with a time of 9:06.03.
Jacob Van Orden ran the 800m, placing 14th with a time of 1:50.68.
For the women,
Lucy Henkel finished 14th in the 800m with a time of 2:06.68.

At the Virginia Challenge, several Lions also did well.
George Blaha took eighth place in the 10000m, finishing with a final time of 31:14.07.
Rocco Carpinello placed tenth in the mens triple jump with a mark of 14.52.
Haydn Brotschi ran the 400m, finishing 10th with a time of 47.19.
The women also had several high finishers.
Madison Williams finished fifth in long jump with a new program record of 6.17m.

ON DECK:
On April 24th, the Lions are back in action, competing in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. The Penn Relays will begin at 10:00 am, and will continue through Saturday.
