Lions (+16) climb into second place heading to Sunday’s final round
SPRINGFIELD, Pa. — Columbia first-year Grant Lester and senior Wyatt McGovern each remain in the top five on the individual leaderboard after Saturday's Second Round of the Ivy League Men's Golf Championship. The event is being held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Rolling Green Golf Club.
Lester (-2) is tied for second, following up Friday's first-round 1-under-par 69 with another on Saturday. As he did in Round 1, the first-year from Washington, D.C., posted three birdies and two bogeys in Round 2. He started bogey-birdie-bogey on his first three holes before going bogey-free the rest of the round. He birdied the par-5 seventh and par-5 17th for his second straight round of 69.
McGovern (-1) is tied for fourth after a second-round even-par 70. The senior from California had a tumultuous day, carding five birdies, five bogeys and eight pars in Round 2. Three birdies and two bogeys helped him make the turn at 1-under on the day. He birdied the 11th to momentarily pull into a tie for the lead at 3-under for the tournament. Three bogeys and a birdie over his last five holes wrapped up McGovern's round of 70.
Princeton's Riccardo Fantinelli (-4) remains atop the individual leaderboard, two shots in front of Lester and Harvard's Ieuan Jones. McGovern and Cornell's Jackson Debusschere are another shot back in a two-way tie for fourth.
Columbia (+16) shot a team round of 4-over-par 284, which was eight shots better than Friday's first round and moved the Lions up to second on the team leaderboard. In addition to Lester's and McGovern's rounds, senior William Sung shot a 2-over 72 and junior Darren Pang shot a 73. The Lions still trail Princeton (-1) by 17 shots but will attempt to hunt down the Tigers on Sunday.
The Lions tee off in threesomes with Princeton and Harvard in Sunday's final round. The final groups tee off between 10:10 and 10:50 a.m. Fans can find pairings and follow live scoring throughout the weekend on the College Golf Scoreboard, powered by Clippd.
