The rising senior will make a third appearance in the qualifying draw
ORLANDO, Fla. – Columbia men's tennis rising senior Michael Zheng battled the intense heat and one of the top players in the nation in the championship round of the American Collegiate Wildcard Playoff. With a wild card entry to the main draw of the 2025 US Open on the line, Zheng fell to Wake Forest's Stefan Dostanic 6-3, 6-4 on the main court at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
After defeating Ohio State's Aiden Kim in the semifinals on Monday, Zheng secured, at worst, a wild card bid to the qualifying draw. It marks the third consecutive summer that Zheng will compete for a chance to play in the US Open in Queens.
The qualifying draw takes place Aug. 18-21 on courts 4-17 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The US Open Qualifying Tournament will feature 128 men and 128 women competing for the final 16 spots in the US Open Singles Main Draw. The US Open Qualifying Tournament is free to the public.
On the doubles side, Zheng and Nicolas Kotzen finished their match against Stanford's duo of Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera. The Lions' duo battled but fell 6-4, 6-7, 4-6.
Earlier today, former Lion Theo Winegar 'CC24 and his partner Cooper Williams posted a straight sets win and faced Godsick and Rivera for a wild card spot in the doubles main draw.
