NEW YORK - The Columbia volleyball team begins Ivy League play on Saturday when Cornell comes to Levien Gymnasium. Saturday's match between the Lions and Big Red is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first serve and will be streamed on ESPN+ with Perri Kitei calling the action live courtside.
All fans planning to attend any of the matches will need to use the entrance to Levien Gymnasium located on 120th Street.
INITIATIVES
The Lions are celebrating alumnae weekend at this weekend's game. Columbia welcomes back all former volleyball players to be recognized at Levien during the game.
LAST TIME OUT
On Tuesday, the Lions wrapped up their non-conference slate of matches with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Big Ten foe Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights took the early momentum in the opening set, defeating Columbia 25-8. The Lions put together stronger stretches in the second and third. After recording just 11 kills and 12 attack errors in the first two frames, Columbia responded with a spirited third, notching nine kills.
SCOUTING CORNELL
Cornell enters Saturday's contest with a 5-5 overall record. They are 1-2 on the road and 4-5 away from home in 2025. Last weekend, the Big Red went 1-2 at the Rice Invitational. No. 9 TCU and Rice swept them on Friday, but came back to defeat Texas A&M - Corpus Christi 3-1.
As a team, Cornell is hitting .255, which is fourth in the conference. Their 12.95 kills per set is third in the Ivy League. Senior outside hitter Eliza Konvicka is leading the conference in kills (148) and kills per set (4.23). She is also hitting .306.
Leading the attack are setters Doga Ozalp and Mikayla Gray, who are averaging 5.18 and 5.09 assists per set, respectively. Junior Liber Sarita Pomar leads the team with 148 digs, averaging 3.79 digs per set.

NATIONAL NUMBERS
The Lions remain one of the top teams in the nation at serving aces. Columbia is 41st in the country in aces per set at 1.88 (second in the Ivy) and ranks 67th overall with 77 total aces.
Delaney Seamen ranks 121st in the country in aces per set, averaging 0.43 - that also ranks second in the conference. Elena Maynulet is second on the team and fourth in the Ivy League, averaging 0.41 assists per set. Her 16 total aces are second in the conference.
DOUBLE DOUBLE
Elena Maynlet is tops on the team with 121 kills and 100 digs - she is one of two players (Jena Garner from Penn) who have at least 100 kills and 100 digs. Maynulet has six double-doubles in 10 matches this season.
ON DECK
The Lions will remain at home for another week, hosting Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend. The Lions and Big Green are scheduled to play on Friday, October 3, at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Columbia hosts Harvard at 6 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and will feature live stats.
