Sophia Abate nets the lone goal for the Lions

NEW YORK Columbia field hockey dropped a 4-1 decision to Brown in Ivy League action on Friday afternoon at the Columbia Field Hockey Complex.

Brown (3-3, 1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before halftime, thanks to two goals from Lexi Pellegrino. Sophia Abate's goal for Columbia came with 43 seconds left in the third quarter off a penalty corner, with assists from Sam Petrucco and Delfina Gonzalez Lobo, cutting Brown's lead to 3-1.

The Lions (3-3, 0-2) generated seven shots, including four in the third period as they pushed to get back into the game.

Goalkeeper Margot Houle kept Columbia in contention with 13 saves, with eight of them coming in the third quarter when Brown applied heavy pressure. Lizzie Adams added three defensive saves for the Lions.

Pellegrino set up Frances Moriniere's late fourth-quarter goal for Brown that sealed the result.
