Medina's Equalizer Helps Women's Soccer Battle to Draw with La Salle

Lions and Explorers tied, 1-1

NEW YORK – Columbia women's soccer returned to Commisso Stadium on Sunday afternoon after over two weeks away from home, and welcomed the La Salle Explorers to New York City for a non-conference matchup.

After a hard fought 90 minutes, with multiple offensive and defensive highlights and numerous momentum swings, La Salle and Columbia battled to a 1-1 draw.

The Explorers (1-3-1) got on the board first in the 20th minute, when a corner kick from Elizabeth Estrada deflected off multiple bodies in the box before Kameron Rase redirected it past Samantha Mahoney

Both defenses held tight for the remainder of the first half, and La Salle took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The break was great for the Lions (1-4-1), as the offense came out hot in the second half and dominated the rest of the contest.

Sammie Moncion had the play of the day, finding Krystal Medina with a beautiful pass leading to an easy score for the forward to even up the match at 1-1.

The Lions nearly took the lead on multiple occasions in the second half, with their best chance coming in the 73rd minute. Maia Tabion broke free in the box but was denied by a diving save from Yaracs Mackenna. Then, Angel Akanyirige attempted a shot on the rebound, but Mackenna made another incredible save while still on the ground.

The Lions had the advantage in shots and shots on target in the match, 10-6 and 4-2, respectively.
