Earns first selection following career performance at Harvard
NEW YORK – Columbia women's basketball senior Perri Page has been named Ivy League Player of the Week for games played January 5-11. The league office announced its weekly selections Monday afternoon.
Page recorded career- and game-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds, also adding a game-high five steals to go with two assists and a block in Saturday's 58-55 win at Harvard. The tweener from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, came out on fire with 12 first-quarter points, eventually ending the game 9-of-14 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from 3-point range. Page then came through in the game's biggest moment, breaking up a 55-all tie by scoring the game-winning basket with 1.9 seconds left. Harvard was whistled for a foul on the play and Page converted her free throw to finish off the three-point play.
This is Page's first career Ivy League Player of the Week selection. She was named Women's Division I Player of the week by the Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) back on Dec. 16.
Page ranks No. 6 in the Ivy League in scoring (14.6), No. 5 in rebounding (7.1), No. 1 in field goal percentage (.540) and No. 1 in steals (3.0). She is one of three players in NCAA Division I averaging at least 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and shooting 50 percent or better from the field. The other two are reigning All-American Sarah Strong (UConn) and Montana State's Taylee Chirrick.
Columbia (10-5, 1-1 Ivy) hosts two Ivy League games over MLK Weekend, beginning with Yale (4-11, 0-2 Ivy) on Saturday at 2 p.m. That game will be televised live in the New York area on SNY. Brown (10-4, 2-0 Ivy) visits Levien Gymnasium on Monday.
