NEW YORK — Columbia track and field, fencing, squash, women's swimming & diving and men's swimming & diving are featured in this week's edition of Lions on the Road. Every week, GoColumbiaLions.com will be using Lions on the Road to preview that week's upcoming games and events happening off campus.

Track & Field
The Columbia track & field team opened the 2025–26 season with a strong weekend across three meets in the New York City area, highlighted by multiple event wins and a new program record. At the Armory Collegiate Distance Carnival, Tyler Yen (6.85m) and Madison Williams (5.63m) won the long jump, Viktoria Mihaylova claimed the triple jump (11.97m), and Elia Ton-That placed second in the 3000m (9:42.63). The Lions carried that momentum into the TCNJ Indoor Open, where Jacob Van Orden (4:08.14) and Maggie Boler (5:02.17) swept the mile, Moriah Luetjen won the 400m (57.09), and Columbia earned wins in the high jump, long jump, and pole vault. At the Army Crowell Open, Mia Hoskins set a new program record in the weight throw with a 17.94m mark, while Parker Kim won the event and Marcus Blasucci recorded the second-best shot put mark in program history (17.59m).

Fencing
The Lions return to the strip as a team for the first time since November when they take on five teams at the St. John's Super Cup this weekend in Queens. Columbia will take on the Red Storm, Harvard, Ohio State, Princeton and Notre Dame at the event. Both squads come into the meet undefeated in dual competition, with the men checking in at 11-0 and the women at 12-0. In the latest United States Fencing Coaches Association Poll, which was announced on Monday, the women are ranked No. 1 and the men are at No. 2.

Squash
Columbia's men's and women's squash teams split their Sunday afternoon meeting with Drexel at SL Green Streetsquash, as the No. 8 men's team earned a convincing 7–2 victory over the sixth-ranked Dragons while the No. 11 women fell 8–1 to No. 9 Drexel. On the men's side, Columbia picked up straight-game wins from Yusuf Sheikh and Paarth Ambani, four-game victories from Shaurya Bawa, Franklyn Smith, and Varun Fuloria, and five-game triumphs by Ahmad Haq and Imad Athar to secure the upset. The women's match was tighter than the score indicated, with three contests going to five games, including a win from Isha Gupta at No. 9 and narrow five-set losses from Eugenia Li and Charlie McCrone. Both teams are set to face their first conference opponents of 2026.

Women's Swimming & Diving
After some time off for the holidays, the women's swimming and diving team returns to the pool this weekend. The Lions will travel to Rhode Island for an Ivy meet against Brown on Saturday, beginning at noon. Columbia will look to pick up where it left off at the end of 2025, when the squad finished third at the Big Al Invite. Jilly MacNamara had Columbia's top finish of the meet in the 200 back, taking second with a time of 1:57.14.

Men's Swimming & Diving
After some time off for the holidays, the men's swimming and diving team is back in action this weekend. The Lions will travel to Rhode Island for an Ivy meet against Brown on Saturday, beginning at noon. Columbia will look to pick up where it left off at the end of 2025, when the squad finished second at the Big Al Invite. Isaac Beers set a new 200 back program record with a time of 1:41.98 which was good for second place. Meanwhile, Zion James won multiple events once again dominating the sprints.
