
Squash Concludes First Day of CSA Individual National Championships

Lions secured four victories
NEW YORK — Sophomore Yusuf Sheikh advanced to round of 32 in the Pool Trophy Division as the Lions continue to compete in the second day of the CSA Individual tournament inside Open Squash FiDi on Friday night.
Sheikh put the Lions on board first with a convincing win against no. 23 Amherst's Devon Osborne (11-5,11-7,11-4). Junior Shaurya Bawa outlasted Kyle Broadhurst from F&M (11-6, 11-13, 11-8, 11-9). In the round of 32, Sheikh faced off against teammate Bawa and claimed the victory in three sets, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6.
Junior Arhan Chandra earned his first victory of the season defeating Penn's no. 52 Rustin Wiser in three games, 11-5, 14-12, 11-6. Chandra contested against UVA's Juan Irisarri but came up short, 11-9, 11-2, 11-4.
Senior Franklyn Smith fought through a five-game battle for Columbia, taking the second and third games against Harvard's no. 30 Maddox Moxham before falling in a tightly contested match (5-11, 12-10, 11-7, 3-11, 8-11).
First year Ahmad Haq battled through five games for Columbia, pushing the match deep after rallying to take the third and fourth games. Despite the comeback effort, Drexel's Guido Lindner edged out the decider to secure the win (5-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 7-11).
Senior Nourin Khalifa opened strong for Columbia, taking the first game before Virginia's no. 29 Maria Min responded with three straight to claim the match (11-9, 6-11, 7-11, 7-11).
Yeheni Kuruppu faced a tough matchup against Cornell's no. 36 Alysa Ali, who earned a straight-game victory (6-11, 7-11, 4-11).

Columbia continues action on the second day with a full slate of individual matches across multiple divisions.
Sheikh competes in the Pool Trophy Division at 2:40 p.m., while Smith and Haq take the courts in Men's Plate Pool B at 11:40 a.m.
Bawa (Men's Consolidated Pool D) and Chandra (Men's Consolidated Pool E) are both slated for 2:10 p.m.
On the women's side, Nourin Khalifa and Yeheni Kuruppu open play in Women's Plate Pool B at 10:00 a.m.
