Columbia welcomed 22 individuals and four teams in the ninth induction ceremony at Cipriani 25
NEW YORK — Columbia Athletics inducted its Hall of Fame Class of 2026 on Thursday, Oct. 22, at Cipriani 25 on Broadway. The ceremony drew a sellout crowd of alumni, fans, and friends.
The class includes 22 individual inductees and four teams, spanning 10 sports programs and more than 115 years of Columbia Athletics history. The group features 16 former student-athletes, four longtime athletics staff members, and two special-category honorees. Inductees were chosen by a vote of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee, made up of former student-athletes, athletics administrators, and university representatives.
"This was a tremendous evening honoring such a special group of individuals and teams," said Peter Pilling, Campbell Family director of intercollegiate athletics and physical education. "Thank you to our generous sponsors for making this event possible at Cipriani 25. Congratulations to the Class of 2026. We hope you enjoyed being back with your Columbia Lions family."
Columbia alumnus and broadcaster Dalen Cuff '06CC served as emcee for the black-tie event. Barnard College President Laura Rosenbury and Columbia University President Jennifer L. Mnookin also delivered remarks.
Honorees included five Olympians: Fitzhugh Townsend 1893CC 1896SEAS (fencing), Maxie Long 1900CC (track and field), Jackie Dubrovich '16CC (fencing), Nadia Eke '14CC (track and field), and Jake Hoyle '16CC (fencing). The athletics staff category honored four people whose work at Columbia stretched across decades. Jacqueline Blackett and former Barnard athletics director Margie Tversky were recognized for their leadership and service supporting student-athletes. Kevin McCarthy, the winningest head coach in Columbia women's soccer history, was also inducted, along with Al Bagnoli, who led football from 2015-23.
The program ended with the induction of former University President Lee C. Bollinger and William V. Campbell '62CC. Bollinger was recognized for expanding Columbia Athletics during his 21 years as university president, including facility investments and increased opportunities for student-athletes. Campbell, a longtime leader in Columbia Athletics, captained the 1961 Ivy League championship football team.
