Lions look to retain title for a fifth consecutive year
NEW YORK — The Columbia men's golf team will host the Columbia Autumn Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at Lake Placid Club in Lake Placid, N.Y. The two-day, 54-hole event will be contested at the club's Links Course.
The tournament tees off with a shotgun start on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. The 13-team field will play 36 continuous holes on Saturday, followed by the final 18 holes on Sunday.
Teams competing this weekend include the host Lions, Brown, Colgate, Cornell, Dartmouth, Fordham, Lehigh, Manhattan, Merrimack, Monmouth, Niagara, Siena and UMass. The Links Course is a par 71 that will be set to 6,508 yards for the first and third rounds. The teams will play to 6,776 yards for Saturday's second round.
Columbia's team lineup for the team event will consist of sophomore Alejandro Formosa, sophomore Neil Kulkarni, first-year Tom Yu, first-year Spencer Carter and junior Ryan Keyes. Four additional Lions will compete in the event as individuals – Salil Khanduja, Hunter Po, Charles Lange and Sam Johnson.
Last year, the Lions earned a fourth straight victory at Lake Placid Club. They entered the final round trailing Colgate by three shots but were 12 shots better than the Raiders on Sunday. Columbia posted a final-round even-par 284 and held off Dartmouth by one shot.
Kulkarni led the way individually last year with rounds of 68, 69 and 68 to shoot a career-low 8-under-par 205. He finished as the tournament's runner-up.
Columbia has played in two rain-shortened events this season, getting two rounds in at The Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red (Sept. 12-13) and one round in last weekend in the Macdonald Cup at Yale Golf Course (Sept. 25). Yu leads the team in stroke average at 72.00 through the early going. Right behind him is Kulkarni (72.67), followed by Keyes (73.00) and Johnson (73.67).
Live results for this weekend will be available on the Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
