Fencing Coasts at Brian Palestis Memorial

Both teams go 3-0 in final tuneup before Ivy League Championships
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Columbia fencing teams coasted to a 6-0 mark at the Brian Palestis Memorial on Sunday. The men's squad (17-2 overall) and the women's team (19-1 overall) defeated Penn State, Vassar and Wagner in Staten Island.
Women's foil did not drop a single bout on the day, and was led by 6-0 records from Mikayla Chusid, Nadia Hayes and Katerina Lung. Jaden Callahan posted a perfect 9-0 mark in men's sabre.
Columbia blitzed Penn State in the first round, with the men earning a 22-5 victory and the women coming away with a 23-4 win. Men's sabre and women's foil each swept through their bouts to highlight the round.
Both teams downed Vassar, 25-2. Women's foil ran the table for the second consecutive round, while men's foil also earned a clean sweep in the triumph.
The men downed Wagner, 18-9, in the final matchup of the day, while the women picked up a 22-5 triumph.
Next up for Columbia is the Ivy League Round Robin Championships, which will be held from February 7-8 in Princeton, New Jersey.
