The action gets underway on Saturday, February 7, in Princeton
NEW YORK — The Columbia fencing team will head to the Ivy League Round Robin Championships, being held from February 7-8 in Princeton University's Jadwin Gymnasium. The Lions are in search of their ninth men's title and seventh women's championship.
The event will be broadcast live on ESPN+, featuring wraparound coverage of the nine strips.
The Lions enter the two-day event as the No. 1 seed in the men's and women's draws. The women boast a 19-1 record in dual matches this season, and the men are 17-2.
Each team will fence in dual matches against the other squads. The team or teams with the best record will emerge as Ivy League Champions. The action begins on Saturday, February 7, when the women face off against Brown at 9 a.m. The men's competition is slated to start at 3:45 p.m. against Princeton. The full schedule can be found on the Ivy League Championship Tournament Central page.
Last season, both teams finished second in the team competitions. The men swept the individual weapon titles, and Tierna Oxenreider took the women's epee title. Junior Samarth Kumbla is the two-time defending men's foil champion, and sophomore Will Morrill will look to defend his men's sabre crown this weekend.
Columbia has 11 fencers in the lineup who have previously earned All-Ivy League honors. Senior Skyler Liverant (men's epee) will look to make it four straight years on an all-conference team, while Zander Rhodes (women's foil) aims for her third All-Ivy League selection.
