LAST TIME OUT
The Columbia women's swimming and diving team closed the regular season in emphatic at the end of January, defeating Dartmouth, 165-135, at Percy Uris Natatorium on Senior Day.
Columbia set the tone early in the pool, winning the opening 200 medley relay as the quartet of Shaelyn Shields, Ashley Hong, Ella Chan, and Sally Ma touched first in 1:41.75 to grab an early lead.
Ma had a great afternoon in her final regular season competition, winning the 50 freestyle (23.18) and finishing second in the 100 free (50.62). Hong dominated the middle of the meet with victories in both the 200 IM (2:03.75) and 200 breaststroke (2:17.11). Natalia Diaz added another win for Columbia, capturing the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.43, as Columbia swept the top two spots in the event.
In the backstroke events, Shields picked up a victory in the 100 back (55.94) and added a runner-up finish in the 200 back, while Lorelai Page claimed first in the 200 back (1:59.14). Chan contributed key points across multiple events, including a second-place finish in the 100 fly.
On the boards, senior Chloe Leung capped her final home meet in dominant fashion, sweeping both diving events. Leung captured first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 295.65 before following with a victory on the 1-meter (275.63). Valeriya Bondarenko added points with fourth-place finishes in both events to round out a strong showing on the boards.
Also at the BU Invite earlier this month, the Lions were led by a standout weekend from Sophie Kloppenburg, who captured first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.80 and then went on to win the 100 free with a time of 51.39. She also added a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:53.79).
