Weiss Earns 2026 Dolph Schayes Outstanding Performance by a Jewish Athlete Award

First Columbia Lion to win the award
NEW YORK – Columbia women's basketball junior guard Riley Weiss has earned the 2026 Dolph Schayes Outstanding Performance by a Jewish Athlete Award. The award will be presented to Weiss at the April 12, 2026, Jewish Sports Heritage Association (JSHA) Induction Ceremony, to be held at Temple Israel, 140 Central Avenue, Lawrence, New York.
Weiss had a stellar junior season and was named the Ivy League Women's Basketball Player of the Year. She was also a unanimous First Team All-Ivy League selection and is now a two-time first-teamer. Through the regular season, Weiss led the Ivy League in scoring average (19.7 ppg), total points (531), total threes (76), 3-pointers made per game (2.81), 3-point field goal percentage (38.5%), and total field goals made (189). Nationally, she ranks in the top 20 in scoring and 3-pointers per game.
A native of the hamlet of Hewlett on Long Island, Weiss earned a league-leading six Ivy League Player of the Week selections, becoming the seventh player in league history to earn at least as many in a single season. She was the JSHA Michael Freedman Outstanding Jewish Female High School Athlete of the Year in 2023.
Weiss and the Lions (20-8) now get set for a WBIT First Round home game against St. John's (22-11). Thursday's opening tip from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Dolph Schayes is considered one of the greatest players in NBA history, having been named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. Dolph was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1973. He was a 12-time NBA All-Star and a 12-time All- NBA selection. Dolph led the Syracuse Nationals to the 1955 NBA title.
