Seventh player in Ivy League history to be named Player of the Week at least six times in a season
NEW YORK – Columbia women's basketball guard Riley Weiss (Hewlett, N.Y.) has earned her league-leading sixth Ivy League Player of the Week selection, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Weiss averaged 22.5 points to lead the Lions to victories at Yale, 68-47, and Brown, 59-56, over the weekend. She scored a game-high 26 on 10-of-18 shooting in Friday night's win over the Bulldogs. With the Lions up three at halftime, Weiss came out of the locker room and scored the game's next 11 points. It culminated in a 15-0 Columbia run that put the game out of reach. Weiss hit 6-of-7 shots on her way to 15 points in the third quarter alone.
Saturday evening at Brown, she scored a team-high 19 while adding three steals, two rebounds, a block and an assist. The junior from Long Island connected on a 4-point play as part of an 11-point second quarter. Her two free throws in the final seconds helped seal the three-point road victory.
Weiss is the Ivy League's leading scorer at 19.9 points per game, ranking 19th in the NCAA in scoring and 21st in 3-pointers made per game (2.85). She leads the Ivy League in both categories, as well as total points (517), 3-pointers made (47), 3-point percentage (37.0%), and total field goals made (186).
Weiss's six Ivy League Player of the Week selections are the most by a Lion since Abbey Hsu had a program-record seven during her 2023-24 senior season. Weiss is the seventh player in Ivy League history to collect the weekly award at least six times in a single season.
Senior Perri Page was named to this week's Ivy League Honor Roll. She averaged 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists across the two wins, while also shooting 60 percent from the field. Her go-ahead three-point play with less than two minutes remaining at Brown pushed the Lions on top for good.
Columbia (20-6, 11-2 Ivy) hosts Harvard (16-10, 9-4 Ivy) this Saturday for its regular-season finale. Opening tip from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium is scheduled for 2 p.m. It will be Senior Day for Perri Page and Susie Rafiu, with pregame festivities expected to begin at approximately 1:45.
