Women’s Rowing Head Coach Emerson Curry Named CRCA Division I Region I Coach of the Year

The Lions’ staff was also tabbed Division I Region I Staff of the Year; Bukowski named CRCA Pocock All-American Honorable Mention
NEW YORK — Columbia women's rowing head coach Emerson Curry has been named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division I Region I Coach of the Year and associate head coach Samantha Warren, assistant coaches Alexander Canale and Maggie Gavin were tabbed Division I Region I Coaching Staff of the Year on Friday afternoon, as voted on by CRCA Member coaches.
In addition, senior Emily Bukowski was selected as a CRCA Pocock All-American Honorable Mention. Bukowski raced out of the No. 2 seat in the First Varsity Eight boat that bested most of its regular season opponents (Boston College, UConn, Holy Cross, Northeastern, Navy, UMass, Bucknell, URI, Cornell, Temple, Rutgers, Notre Dame, BU, Harvard-Radcliffe, and Dartmouth), while only falling to Brown.
Columbia competed in its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance last weekend, racing in three Third Finals at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia. Columbia finished 15th in the Points Trophy Standings with 49 points. The Lions' historic season also featured a second place finish for the First Varsity Eight at Eastern Sprints.
Columbia also finished in fourth place in the Varsity Eight Grand Final to headline the Lions' performances at the Ivy League Championship on the Cooper River. A day later, Columbia was selected to the NCAA Championship.
The CRCA Coach and Staff of the Year Awards honor the exceptional leaders behind the success of collegiate rowing programs across all NCAA divisions and the lightweight category. These awards recognize those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, competitive achievement, and a deep commitment to the student-athletes and teams they guide.
The CRCA All-American Awards recognize the most outstanding collegiate rowers and coxswains across all NCAA divisions and the lightweight category. These athletes have demonstrated elite athletic performance, leadership, consistency, and dedication throughout the season, earning distinction among the top rowers in the nation.
