KISSIMMEE, FL. - Junior Taylor Tierney had a total of 10 RBI in two games, hitting a grand slam against Cleveland State and a three RBI triple against George Mason. The Lions are now 9-7 on the season.
In the first game, the Lions went ahead of Cleveland State in the bottom of the third inning 2-0. With one out and Maiya Chard-Yaron on first base, first-year Ciji Rich hit a double to right field, sending Chard-Yaron to third and herself to second. With two outs after Hilary Parsons grounded out to the pitcher, Tierney hit a hard single to the shortstop, allowing the two runners to score.
Cleveland State was able to get within one run in the top of the fifth inning, getting three hits and pushing a runner across the plate. CU gained a five-run lead in the bottom half of the inning, going ahead 6-1. With one out, a full count and the bases loaded, Tierney hit a grand slam over the centerfield fence. At the end of the inning, the Lions tallied four hits and took advantage of two Viking errors.
Tierney, Shelle Borton and Kacy Krisman all finished the game going 2-for-3 from the plate, with Tierney having all six RBI in the game and a grand slam. Junior Megan Ivey pitched the win for the Lions, allowing seven hits, one earned run and struck out two.
The Lions got on the board early in the second game, going up 4-0 over George Mason in the top of the first. CU loaded the bases with the first three batters and then with one out, Borton hit a single to left field, scoring two runs. The Lions then executed two suicide squeezes in a row, one each by Kim and Kacy Krisman, to score the next two runs.
CU scored another four runs in the top of the fourth inning, making the lead 8-0. With two outs and the bases loaded, Tierney racked up four more RBI, hitting a triple down the right field line, scoring three runners and then scoring herself as the right fielder made a throwing error. The scored stayed the same until the end of the game, which ended after the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.
Tierney ended the game going 1-for-4 with four RBI, making her RBI total 10 for the day. Kacy Krisman finished the game going 2-for-2 with one RBI. Junior Jackie Adelfio pitched the win for the Lions, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out five.
The Lions play their last games in the Rebel Games tomorrow, March 17th, playing IUPUI at 4:10 p.m. and Colgate at 6 p.m.
