Major renovations to Uris Pool and new bleachers for Levien Gym highlight construction projects in the Dodge Physical Fitness Center this summer. Other upgrades include improved lighting and a coat of paint in the building's hallways.
Uris Pool may be most substantial of the many upgrades taking place. The more-than-$2 million project will improve the structure and aesthetics of pool itself, the pool deck, lighting, and ceiling tiles. The pool bottom - the concrete slab and drainage system for groundwater - is being entirely reconstructed. The air handler/ventilation system is being replaced, as is the new filter system in the pump room. The pool and deck are being retiled, and lighting made brighter. The project is expected to be completed in late September.
Levien Gymnasium will also feature a new look beginning this fall. The bleachers are being completely replaced with Columbia Blue-colored bleachers which will feature wider aisles and intermediate steps to make access easier than with the previous bleachers. The new layout will include 220 chairback seats as part of the 2700 maximum capacity seating.
