Columbia student-athletes are part of a storied and historic athletic department. Columbia University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education are excited to announce the Columbia Lions Leadership Initiative which will focus on developing authentic student-athlete leaders with the purpose of furthering the leadership and championship culture on Columbia's athletic teams.Â
The Columbia Lions Leadership Initiative is designed to provide varsity student-athletes with unique, holistic, and comprehensive leadership development opportunities. Identified student-athlete leaders will be engaged in ongoing, interactive, peer-to-peer sessions that are based on the program's core values as well as foundational leadership principles. Each session provides the student-athlete with unique learning opportunities to better enhance self-awareness, while also providing the essential skills to become successful team leaders. The program also incorporates a 360-degree feedback approach which allows student-athletes to get the necessary feedback from coaches, teammates, and trusted others in order to more effectively develop as leaders. Each year of programming progresses from a focus on self-awareness, to leading others, and finally to leading your team towards championship performance.Â
