Before joining the Columbia staff, Lange served as the assistant coach and women's recruiting coordinator at Furman University from 2022-2026.
Furman won its 13th-consecutive SoCon cross country title in 2025. The Paladins, who own the longest active conference winning streak in the nation on the women’s side, were led by freshman, Tessa Walter, who was honored as the SoCon Women's Runner of the Year and as the league's female freshman of the year after winning the women's individual title. Walters would go on to earn SoCon Freshman of the year for both the indoor and outdoor track championships. During the 2026 outdoor season, the Paladins advanced four women to the NCAA East Preliminaries, including Claire Cook in the 800m, Camryn Wennersten in the 1,500m, and both Annie Miller and Jais Ward in the 3,000m Steeplechase.
In 2024 the Paladins won their 12th-consecutive league cross country title. Carly Wilkes was honored as the SoCon Runner of the Year after winning the individual title and establishing a new course record, Wilkes went on to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Preliminaries in both the 5,000m and the 10,000m, while Nicole Matysik qualified for the event in the 3,000m Steeplechase. Furman captured the league title for the 11th-consecutive season in 2023. The Paladins finished second at the Southeast Region Championship, tying the highest regional finish in the history of the Furman women’s program, and placed five women on the all-region team. Furman went on to register a top-25 finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships, placing 24th, and ranked as high as 13th nationally.
In his first season at Furman, Lange assisted Abigail Robertson, who was named the SoCon Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer after posting a pair of wins in the 3,000m and 5,000m at the 2023 SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships. She became Furman's second-straight female most outstanding track performer and third in four years. Freshman Jenna Mulhern claimed SoCon Freshman of the Year honors on the women's side after leading all female freshmen at the championship with 13 points. She was Furman's second-straight freshman of the year and third since 2018. Robertson qualified for the 2023 NCAA East Preliminaries in the 1,500m, where she placed 45th.
Lange spent two seasons as the recruiting coordinator/assistant coach at Iowa State (2021-2022) where he helped the Cyclone men to a second-place finish and the women to a ninth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the women's program's first top-10 team finish since 2014. During Lange's time on staff, the Iowa State women produced six All-Big 12 and four All-Midwest Region performers in cross country, and the team's success continued onto the track, as his work with the Cyclone women helped lead ISU to fifth at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, the team's best finish since 2014. Three Iowa State women earned all-conference honors in the steeplechase in 2021, with Janette Schraft finishing 14th at the NCAA Preliminaries.
As the Cyclone's recruiting coordinator, Lange signed eight athletes ranked among the top 20 nationally by Milesplit in their primary event, and his recruits combined for 41 state championships in their senior campaigns for the class of 2021.
While at George Washington, Lange also served as an assistant coach with the District Track Club of Washington, D.C., where he assisted with athlete development and team operations for the Under Armour funded professional team. He introduced strength-based training principles, resulting in theteam's first appearance on the world stage, as three athletes qualified for the 2019 Outdoor World Championships.
Lange started his coaching career at George Washington from 2018-21 serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. The GWU women finished in the top-3 of the Atlantic 10 in cross country each season that Lange was on staff, with three student-athletes earning All-Conference honors each year. In 2019 Lange guided Suzanna Dannheim to become the second ever individual NCAAXC qualifier in school history, she would go on to set school records in both the indoor 3k and 5k, winning conference titles in both events and earning A-10 performer of the meet at the 2020 indoor conference championship. The GWU women made history during the 2021 outdoor track season, as Lange's steeplechasers Margaret Coogan and Kathryn Nohilly qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries, marking the first time GWU had two female student-athletes qualify for regionals in the same year.
A native of Schenectady, N.Y., Lange was a four-year letter winner for the Paladins from 2013-2017, when the Paladins won four-consecutive SoCon Championships and qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 2014 and 2015. An All-SoCon selection for cross country in 2016, Lange was a member of the SoCon Academic Honor Roll. He graduated from Furman with a bachelor's degree in communications studies in 2017. Upon graduation from Furman, Lange competed as a graduate student at George Washington during the 2017-18 season, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminaries, where he ran in the 3,000m steeplechase and placed 27th. He earned All-Atlantic-10 honors for cross country and outdoor track, set the school cross country record at 10K at the Mid-Atlantic Regional meet, and was a member of the Colonials' school-record 4xMile team at the 2018 Penn Relays.
