Nate Scales

Columbia Track & Field and Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Daniel Ireland announced, on September 15, 2021, the hiring of Nate Scales to the role of Assistant Coach/Jumps & Multi-Events. 

Scales comes to Columbia after spending the 2020-21 season with joined the Texas Lutheran University Men's and Women's Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field coaching staff.  Scales spent time at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, before joining the TLU staff.
 
Scales is a native of Columbus, Ohio. He attended Hilliard Darby High School in the Columbus area. He attended Kent State University in Kent, Ohio and lettered four seasons in men's indoor and outdoor track & field. He earned all-conference honors twice in the 100-meter dash, and he claimed one all-conference honor in the 60.
 
Scales was on a conference championship 4x100 relay squad, and he qualified for the NCAA Division I East Regional with the 4x100 relay team in 2014. Scales still holds the eighth-fastest 60-meter time in Kent State history.
 
Scales holds a bachelor's degree in organizational communication from Kent State and a master's degree in education form Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.
 
Scales previously served as an assistant track and field coach at Notre Dame Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio, at Heidelberg University, and at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. Scales has worked with sprinters, hurdlers and pole vaulters.
