After joining the Columbia track & field staff as a volunteer in February of 2022, Sean Cooper was promoted to the full-time staff by Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Daniel Ireland in July of 2022 being named Assistant Coach/Jumps & Multi-Events.
Cooper's time as a volunteer was spent mainly focusing on the multi-events during the indoor and outdoor 2021-22 season. Under Cooper's watch, Patrice Smith scored the second-most points in program history (4,260) in the heptathlon at the 2022 Ivy League Outdoor Track & Field Heps.
From August 2013-June 2014 Cooper was an Assistant Coach for Sprints, Jumps and Throws at Mt. St. Mary College. He graduated from Albany with a bachelors in globalization with a business minor in 2013.
