- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Jenna Gambino joined the Columbia staff in August 2007 with loads of coaching and playing experience at a young age.
Gambino comes to Morningside Heights after a year as a graduate assistant coach at Ithaca College, which reached the Division III NCAA Tournament last season. Gambino was one of two assistant coaches on the Ithaca staff. Among her many duties, she coordinated plans for practices and conducted one-on-one workouts primarily with post players.
Gambino worked towards her master’s degree in exercise science with a concentration in sport psychology, which she received in August 2007.
A 2006 graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, Gambino was a two-time first team Skyline Conference selection and served as team captain during her senior year. During her four-year career with the Ducks, Gambino totaled 1,131 points and collected 616 rebounds.
Gambino also boasts extensive coaching experience in a variety of basketball camps. She has worked with the Staten Island Renegades, an AAU team of 11-year old girls; she also worked at the Rising Stars Basketball Camp in Staten Island for four summers and the Philadelphia 76ers basketball camp in the summer of 2005.
Paul Nixon on Gambino:
Jenna has valuable experience as both a player and coach, with a strong tradition of winning in her background. She was an extremely accomplished player at Stevens and she did a great job at Ithaca College last year.
She has already brought positive energy and a confident attitude to our team. Helping to prepare our team on the court will be Jenna’s primary responsibility. She’s going to be working primarily with our young core of post players and who better to teach them than a thousand-point scorer? Our players are really going to benefit from having a coach not that far removed from the game who can relate to how they’re feeling and what they’re going through.
Jenna has a great work ethic and her hunger to grow in the coaching profession is evident in the passion for basketball she brings to this position. She will have a chance to get her feet wet with recruiting and see how a Division I program operates. This is going to be great preparation for her development as a future head coach and as far as I’m concerned ?the sky’s the limit’ for Jenna Gambino! She is a star on the rise and I feel very fortunate to have her as a member of my coaching staff.
