Women's Basketball

- Title:
- Director of Operations
After a year as an assistant coach at Baruch College, Kara Barth joined the Columbia staff in August 2007 as the program’s director of operations. Among her many duties, Barth will assist with the team’s travel, alumnae relations and budget management.
At Baruch, Barth worked with the regular-season CUNY champions that posted an 18-0 record, working primarily to develop post players while assisting with recruiting in the New York area.
A 2006 graduate of LIU, Barth played two seasons under coach Stephanie Gaitley after playing two seasons at Central Arizona College, where the team finished third in the nation at the junior college level in 2004. That season, Barth led the team in blocked shots.
A native of South Bend, Ind., Barth has worked at the Notre Dame basketball camp run by legendary coach Muffet McGraw. Barth also has worked in market research for the New Jersey Nets and as a personal trainer at Crunch Gym.
Barth has a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from LIU and is working toward her master’s degree, also at LIU.
Paul Nixon on Barth:
Kara comes from two extremely successful collegiate programs and her experiences as a player will bring insight to our Director of Operations position that will help prepare our team off the court.
Kara is originally from Indiana, which is well known as a ?basketball state’. Her high school accomplishments caught the eye of one of the winningest coaches in basketball history, on any level, Lin Laursen of Central Arizona College. Kara had the opportunity to play for one of the true legends of our sport in coach Laursen and I know she learned a great deal about winning during her time in Arizona.
For the last two years of her career, Kara had the privilege of playing for another coach who knows how to win in Stephanie Gaitley of Long Island University. Obviously, she was able to share some of what she had learned with her players at Baruch last season, as they went undefeated in their conference play.
For us, she will certainly be in a different role, with all of her duties being administrative in nature, but no one should underestimate the importance of how the little things leading up to and immediately following the games play a role in a program’s long-term success. Kara’s experiences will help us as she takes on these responsibilities.
