Alex Grossman

Alex Grossman is in his second season as Director of Program Development. In this capacity, he leads the program's NIL, creative video, and scout teams, and assists with player development, opposition scouting, recruiting, and fundraising. Last year, Grossman helped Columbia win its second consecutive Ivy League title, and qualify for its first ever NCAA tournament berth.

Prior to arriving at Columbia, Grossman spent the 2022-23 season working for Lindsay Gottlieb on the staff of the USC women’s basketball program. As Assistant Director of Player Development, he was responsible for recruiting and coaching the scout team, assisting with game preparation and scouting, and co-leading the team’s stats and analytics staff. The team ended up with a record of 21-10 and qualified for the NCAA tournament.

Grossman also played a pivotal role in developing the men’s club basketball program while at USC. During his 5 year tenure as head coach, he grew the organization from 12 players and 1 team to 45 players and 3 teams, and achieved a combined record of 53-13. He also led the USC “A” team to a #1 national ranking for most of the 2022-23 season, ahead of more than 175 other university club teams.

Grossman’s career originally started, not in basketball, but in film. For 4 years, he worked at Imagine Entertainment as the personal research, development, and on set assistant for Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard, helping in all phases of production on 3 major motion pictures: Thirteen Lives (Amazon), Hillbilly Elegy (Netflix) and Rebuilding Paradise (National Geographic).

Grossman earned his bachelor’s degree from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he majored in Film & Television Production. He spent his first 3 semesters of college, prior to transferring to USC, as a Film & Television Production major at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he also competed on the Varsity Fencing team.

Grossman, who grew up in Palo Alto, California, is a dual citizen of Australia and the U.S.
