
Field Hockey Falls to Penn, 2-1, in Overtime

Cara Calahan scored for the Quakers at 25:02 on an extended corner, it was also Penn's first shot of the half. The goal, assisted by Kristen Gray, gave Penn a 1-0 lead. Columbia out-shot Penn 6-1 in the half, while each team had one corner.
Junior Kim Branich (CC-Virginia Beach, Va.) equalized for Columbia (6-8, 0-5 Ivy) at 55:34, of an assist by Diana Day (CC-Strausburg, Pa.). It was Branich's third goal of the season.
Penn had six shots in the second half, but four were on one corner, as Columbia dominated possession and time of possession for the period. The Lions had six corners in the half, while Penn had two.
The teams were evenly matched in the overtime period, until the Quakers got a corner with just under three minutes remaining. Although not directly on the push, Penn's Gray scored at 82:42 for the 2-1 victory.
Columbia keeper Kristina George (CC-Encinitas, Calif.) finished with four saves in the loss, while Penn's Liz Schlossberg totaled five.
The Lions out-shot Penn 11-7 and finished with seven corners to the Quakers' four.
Columbia returns to action on Saturday, when they host Yale for a 1 p.m. game at Stevens Tech in Hoboken, N.J.
