PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Courtney Robinson (CC-Ardmore, Pa.) scored 19 minutes into the game, and the Lions held the lead to defeat Rutgers 1-0 in Piscataway. The Lions are now 8-8 on the season, while Rutgers is 7-12.
Kim Branich (CC-Virginia Beach, Va.) gave a centering pass to Robinson, who slapped a shot past Rutgers goalie, Rosalyn Wentko, for the lone score of the game.
First-year Gena Miller (CC-St. Louis, Mo.) saved five shots on the day, including all-three of the Scarlet Knight's second-half shots. It was Miller's first collegiate shut-out.
Eight wins is the second-most in Columbia history and the most wins since 2000. It was also the Lions' first-ever win vs. Rutgers. Columbia was previously 0-2 against the Scarlet Knights all-time.
The Lions close out their season next Saturday, Nov. 5, when they host Harvard for a 7:30 p.m. game at Stevens Tech in Hoboken, N.J.
