Brown Defeats Volleyball, 3-1

The first game of the match was intense with the two teams changing leads right until the end. Columbia started out with an early lead, but the Bears tied the game up at 14. The Lions went on a four-point run to regain an 18-14 lead, but Brown tied the score back up again at 21 and took the lead 24-21. A Brown attacking error let the Lions tie the score at 24 and then the two teams went back-and-forth right until the end with the Bears coming out on top 36-34.
In game two, the Bears took a huge 16-6 lead, but Columbia didn't back down, later going on a nine-point run to take the lead 19-18. The Lions couldn't hold on, however, eventually losing 30-24. Columbia did hold on in the third game, however, winning 30-27 in another close game.
In the final game, Brown managed to get another sizable lead, 16-8, and they held Columbia from making a comeback. The Bears relied on their depth and stayed strong to win 30-22.
For Columbia, six Lions hit double digits. Along with Viti was junior Nikki Learned with 12 kills, sophomore Shannon Hunzicker with 15 digs, sophomore Cassie Ligh with 22 digs, sophomore Natalie Gerling with 13 kills and first-year Ashley Kim with 14 digs.
The Lions continue their home stretch next weekend as they face Penn and Princeton. Columbia plays the Quakers on Friday, October 14th at 4 p.m. and the Tigers on Saturday, October 15th at 7 p.m. Both matches will be held in Levien Gymnasium.
