After shooting a tournament-low 289 in the first round, Columbia led the competition by six strokes. However, Western Carolina followed up its 295 in the first round with another 295 in round two to overtake the Lions by three strokes.
Each of the five Columbia players finished in the top half of the individual competition, with first-year Christy Yun (CC-Tacoma, Wash.) and junior Alana Johnson (CC-Litchfield, Ariz.) each finishing in the top 10. Yun's 68 in the first round tied for the tournament's best score over the two rounds, as she finished fifth overall. Johnson tied for sixth with a pair of 74s.
First-years Sara Ovadia (CC-Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Carly Nathanson (CC-Dix Hills, N.Y.) both tied for 16th place with scores of 152, while junior Jessie Marksbury (CC-Calimesa, Calif.) also finished in the top half with a 159.
Already with a first-place finish and a second-place finish under its belts, Columbia will return to the course on Saturday, October 1 at the Yale Invitational.
