10/22/2006 12:00:00 AM | Field Hockey
Columbia got goals from a first-year, a sophomore and a senior enroute to a 3-0 win over Colgate at the New Field Hockey Venue at Baker Field. This is the Lions' first win against the Raiders since 2001.
Neither team could render many shots in the circle in the first half, as most of the game to that point was played in the midfield and up above both 16's.
The second half started with Columbia putting on some pressure, but neither team captialized on any errors, nor did the scoring opportunities pose any threat to the goalkeepers.
Jacque DeMarco had seven saves on the day for the Raiders, but the Lions' Jane Gartland scored the game-winner at 52:42 assisted by Christine Buszczak.
In the final 10 minutes, the Lions got goals from Ramie Merrill and Megan Davidson for the final 3-0 margin.
