Adams notches her third career multi-goal game in the win
PHILADELPHIA — Columbia field hockey came away with a 3-2 road victory over Penn on Friday afternoon at Ellen Vagelos Field.
Lions goalkeeper Margot Houle made a season-high 10 saves and Lizzie Adams netted two goals to help seal the win. Columbia (7-4, 3-2) still remains in a fourth place tie with Yale in the Ivy League standings with two conference matches to play.
Nadia Gross broke the scoreless tie with her first career goal with 7:50 left in the second quarter to put Columbia ahead, 1-0.
Adams tacked on to the lead 5:23 into the third quarter. Adams took the ball from just inside midfield and went across the pitch and riffled a shot off the post and into the cage to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage. It was her fourth goal of the season.
Adams' solid performance continued into the final frame as she netted her second goal of the game with just under 10 minutes to play in the match. Friday was Adam's third career multi-goal game.
Penn (3-9, 0-5) battled until the final horn and scored two goals in the final minutes of the match. Maxi Aranowitz got the Quakers on the board with 2:10 to play off a penalty corner.
A final penalty corner attempt by Penn was successful when Reese Czajkowski found the back of the cage as time expired. After review, the call stood but it didn't matter as the Lions held on for the one-goal victory.
Penn outshot the Lions, 16-10 (13-9 on goal). Mckenzie Bloom added a multi-shot on goal game for Columbia. The Lions conclude their four-game road trip at Hofstra on Sunday at 1 p.m.
