Yale Defeats Volleyball 3-0

Yale hit .371 as a team to defeat Columbia 3-0 in Ivy League volleyball action.   The Bulldogs got 19 kills and 15 digs from Alexis Crusey, en route to a 30-11, 31-29, 30-22 decision.

Anja Perlebach's serving was a huge source of offense for Yale, as she served at least nine more times than any other person on either team. The Bulldogs rolled the momentum of their early advantage and cruised from there. The closest Columbia came was within eight at 15-7 in game one, as Yale's lead reached as many as 17 points at 26-9. Crusey's fifth kill of the game capped an easy 30-11 game one win for the Bulldogs. Yale hit an impressive .455 (18 kills, three errors, 33 attacks) in the game, while Columbia's percentage was .000 (6-6-36).

Columbia took its first lead of the match by scoring the first two points of game two, but the Bulldogs quickly jumped in front 9-7. Yale built a 19-14 advantage, but Columbia came back to force a 22-22 tie. The Lions took the lead on a service ace, and eventually built the advantage to three at 26-23. Yale came back to force a 28-28 tie. After Columbia served for game point, consecutive Crusey kills put the Bulldogs in a position to win the game. Gabi D'Addario, Amaila Viti and Nikki Learned combined for 12 kills and two errors in game two to lead the Lions.   They dropped the heartbreaker, 31-29.

Game three started off much the same way as game one. Yale built a 5-2 lead and never looked back. With the Bulldogs leading 22-15, Maribeth Martens came in to serve and delivered five straight points to give Yale a 27-15 advantage. The Bulldogs took a timeout after Columbia pulled within 28-20, but a Crusey kill on Yale's third match point closed out a 30-22 win in the game and a 3-0 victory in the match.

Viti was the only Lion in double-digits with 10 kills. Ashley Kim had a team-high 11 digs in the losing effort, while Alex Marchyshyn had 27 assists and nine digs. Columbia hit just .153 (39-19-131) as a team.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday, when they host Manhattan.
